Sometimes I like to make things more complicated than they need to be. I’m sitting here with a case of writer’s block, trying to figure out some really ingenious way to tell you about our back to school shopping trip to Target. I want to make it engaging, creative, and tell you a story from a different angle, like you’ve never heard before. But when you break it down, it’s really quite simple and basic. Target is successful because they make shopping fun, easy, and stylish, and you don’t really need me to tell you that, because you ladies out there already know that. It’s why Target Does It Again is so successful, because they’ve just confirmed what we’ve all been thinking all along; Target does it right, every single time. You may not need me to tell you how great Target is, but I can at least share with you why we love them so much.
As I told you last week, we had about an hour to get some school shopping done before we left for vacation, in between VBS, a play date, work, packing and a doctor’s appointment. It seemed like quite the impossible task, but I have what you call Ninja skills and I knew that if we really focused we could do it. When Syd saw the Stylagram that Target created, featuring the Darth Vader lunch pack, I knew we had to pick that up. Beyond that we needed to pick up a couple of pairs of jeans, some shirts, socks and undies, and snacks. My kids think shopping for snacks is just about as much fun as shopping for toys.
First stop though were to grab some Slurpees and a bag of popcorn. We headed to the back to school section in search of the lunch pail and discovered that it was already sold out. The Target girl working in the department was really helpful though and helped me track it down at another local store and even called to make sure it was there and put it on hold for me. Syd loves workbooks and when he saw the 1st Grade prep book, he declared he had to have it so he could be ready for 1st grade.
Once we were properly stocked up on snacks, supplies and such, we headed over to the clothing department where Syd was given just one rule; he had to pick out at least 1 collared shirt. The child despises collars, but we do need to wear them every now and then, so between a couple of Star Wars shirts and some green skinny jeans, he picked out a collared shirt we both found acceptable.
Clothes, supplies, snacks and slurpees for 2 kids in less than an hour, in and out. It was easy, simple and enjoyable. The kids are excited as they’re going to be about heading back to school, with new purchases patiently waiting in their rooms, ready to get some use very soon. Going back to school isn’t necessarily our favorite thing to look forward to in our household, but at least we didn’t have to take too much time out of our last few days of summer to get ready for it. Thanks Target for helping a mom out, yet again.
