August 8, 2013
I’ve shared with you all how much say my kids have in their own style choices in a post I wrote a few months back. Some days it’s a curse, but most days I have come to see it as a blessing. The other night I dropped the kids off for a sleepover at a friend’s house and I told her, “Don’t be alarmed when Syd gets dressed in jeans and a long sleeve shirt tomorrow morning.” It being August and 90 degrees out and all. Indeed, my kids have their own tastes and preferences and I’ve come to embrace it because at the end of the day, I’d rather have them care about how they presents themselves to the world than not, especially Syd.
We’ll soon be leaving on a trip to visit my aunt and uncle, and before we leave we need to get the last bit of our school shopping done. As I said in Monday’s post, I don’t plan to coordinate any day-long excursions to the mall. Between VBS, a Star Wars play date with friends, packing for our trip, and me trying to squeeze in some work, I have a babysitter booked today to come stay with Hayden for 2 hours so I can take the kids shopping. I’ve already downed 2 cups of coffee in preparation for the big day ahead. Naturally we’ll be hitting up Target to get supplies, and a couple of new outfits.
To kick off the new school year, Target has created an online event to celebrate real kid’s style. They’re looking for us to show off our kid’s unique sense of style on Instagram between August 7th-12th by posting a picture of your kid dressed as they like, doing anything they love. Basically what you already do on a daily basis anyhow. Tag it with the #kidsgotstyle hashtag and mention @target. You and your kid could win a customized Stylagram, which is a cute, handcrafted postcard of the Instagram, plus tailor-made outfit inspiration specific to your kid’s unique sense of style. The Stylagram could include clothes, shoes, school supplies, backpacks, etc. Take a look at the hashtag and you’ll get the idea, as there are already lots of photos uploaded and a couple of Stylagrams that Target has already uploaded. We’re supposed to be getting Syd’s later today and I can’t wait to see what they choose for him. More than anything, I’m curious if they’ll be able to predict his style and read his personality from the Instagram I uploaded. And because Target does everything with style, they created a super cute video to give details of the event, which you can watch below.
So to recap:
– Take a picture of your kid doing what they love, which could just be being silly, and shows off their unique sense of style
– Upload it to Instagram with the hashtag #kidsgotstyle and @target
– Sit back and marvel at how cute your kids are, and how very, very soon, you’ll have some peace and quiet again once school starts

I love seeing what my children choose for school clothes. I have three daughters, and they each have their own style.
very cool! Though I am lucky if my kids are DRESSED on these late summer mornings 🙂 They rarely have shirts on!
Love this! I don’t like all day shopping trips either, we kinda collect pieces they love all summer long in anticipation of back-to-school. Thanks for the #kidsgotstyle idea, you know I’m an Instagram addict!
I SO need to get better about letting my boys express their style. AAAHHH! That would mean embracing lego Star Wars shirts…. like, every day…..
Taylor is making a Horned Frog sign, which obviously means she’s going to TCU someday. GO FROGS!
Haha, does that crazy face go along with it?
This is so fun. I know I have some pictures of my kids where they dressed themselves and they would totally be unhappy if I’d post them on IG, LOL!
i am ready for peace and quiet! 🙂 love target!
