I read some interesting news today on the Neiman Marcus blog, news that is pretty damn exciting in fact. Neiman Marcus and Target have collaborated with 24 designers to produce a holiday collection of amazing, exclusive gift items.
The items range in price from $7.99-$499.00, with most in the $60 price range. The gift collection will debut on December 1st in both Neiman Marcus and Target stores, and online. I am personally impressed that Neiman Marcus finally realized the importance of reaching a larger demographic. I can’t wait to see what they come up with.
Here’s the list of the designers they enlisted for the collaboration:
Alice + Olivia
Altuzarra
Band of Outsiders
Brian Atwood
Carolina Herrera
Derek Lam
Diane von Furstenberg
Eddie Borgo
Jason Wu
Judith Leiber
Lela Rose
Marchesa
Marc Jacobs
Oscar de la Renta
Philip Crangi
Prabal Gurung
Proenza Schouler
Rag & Bone
Robert Rodriguez
Rodarte
Skaist-Taylor
Thom Browne
Tory Burch
Tracy Reese
I have a feeling this is going to be a lot better than the Missoni and Target collaboration ha!
I actually was also excited when I read about this!
As someone who usually buys clothing second hand or vintage, I do also prefer to buy less and have it be quality so I appreciate the opportunity to purchase a Marc Jacobs piece or DVF item, in my price range. I don’t have a monthly clothing budget, so when I do buy clothing, it’s usually with money I’ve saved and it needs to be something that will last {I just bought two pairs of JCREW pants and I haven’t laid down that much in a long time!} I have my shoes re-soled and rarely buy a purse/shoes or outerwear that is on the cheap, in fear that I’ll spend $30.00 but it will fall apart shortly thereafter. I’m intrigued at what the designers might offer to us “little people” {smile}. I like the accessibility, if only for a one time collaboration. It’s unlikely I would be able to own a de la Renta without something like this, so I’m jazzed!
That being said, I hope that this collaboration will work a bit more smoothly then their past ones and there will be something left for those of us that can’t stand in line the night before or sit on the internet and wait. I’m not sure how you solve that problem {or if you even can?}, but with each collaboration TARGET has done, I end up being disappointed because I have yet to obtain the one item I was looking for, because I wasn’t there on opening day.
I’m hoping that because NM is behind the collaboration too, they will be concerned about the quality that ends up coming down the line. That’s always been my biggest thing, is that the quality is just so lacking and is the same as the regular Target stuff, but even more $$ because of the designer name. I ended up returning every single Missoni clothing item I bought last year because it all seemed like it was going to fall apart, and still wasn’t “cheap”. I didn’t get any of the home items which is what was really cute, even getting to the store right at opening. So yes, I hope this one goes a lot better too!
Ohhh my goodness I am so excited to hear this! Can’t wait to see what they come up with!
This date has been marked on my calendar!! I just hope it’s not mayhem like Missoni!
